Alternate Nostril Breathing
Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana) is especially effective for calming an anxious mind, racing heart, or nervous belly. Breathing exclusively through the nose, this exercise directs us in balancing the left and right hemispheres of the brain, creating an immediate calming effect. I can’t recommend this practice enough, especially if if you’re having anxiety, can’t shake troublesome thoughts, or can’t fall asleep. It can feel a little awkward when you begin, but stay with it! You can begin to feel the benefits of this practice in just a few rounds of breath, and can do this exercise at your desk, in your car, or anywhere that you need to rebalance quickly.
